Simon Says Stamp January 2018 Card Kit - Favorite Person (Part 1)

I'm so excited to finally be working with one of the Simon Says Stamp monthly card kits. "Favorite Person" is a fun valentine/love themed kit and I believe it is still available on their website if you'd like to give it a try. My very first card kit (from anywhere!) and I have been nothing but pleased. I found it a bit challenging at first since the stamp set doesn't have many images with which to work, but I must say this is a good thing as it has given me a nudge to be more creative and to try products such as the Delicata Ink and the Distress Glitter Dust that I may never have used otherwise.

Here are my first five creations from the kit.

Card #1
A very quick and simple, but cute card. I used the Neenah 100# Desert Storm Cardstock that came in the kit for my card base. A Marvy Uchida punch that I've had in my stash forever was used to create the 1 3/4" scallop squares from the mint dot patterned paper. I applied those directly to the card base and then added some of the adorable stickers from Crate Paper. The sentiment for this card was simply cut out from one of the patterned papers and popped up on foam squares.

Card #2
For this card, I die cut a piece of the lovely floral patterned paper using the largest rectangle die from the Avery Elle Wonky Stitches die set then used the smaller rectangle die from the same set to cut a place for my sentiment out of white cardstock. I chose 'You're My Favorite' as my sentiment and stamped that in Onyx Black Versafine ink. I added some small hearts beside the sentiment using the Delicata ink and then, using the Delicata again, stamped and cut out the larger solid heart to add to the card, as well. Such a shimmery beautiful ink! I hope to add additional colors to my ink collection soon. For the card base, I used the Simon Says Stamp Schoolhouse Red cardstock. I assembled everything and as finishing touch added the xoxo sentiment from the patterned paper cut-apart sheet.

Card #3
I wanted to make this an elegant, but shimmery card so I decided to use the Tim Holtz Glitter Dust that came in the kit. If you watched my kit unboxing, I mentioned that I probably wouldn't use it because I always seem to make a big mess with glitter, but I just couldn't resist. On a white card panel, I adhered a 1/2" strip of the SSS black cardstock above center. I then applied 1/4" Scor tape above and below the black strip. The Glitter Dust was then applied and pressed down with a piece of scrap paper to make sure it was adhered well. Any excess glitter was removed. I chose 'Love you' as my sentiment and stamped that with Onyx Black Versafine ink in the lower left corner. On the black strip, I placed a bow that I created using the Lawn Fawn Put a Bow on It die set. As a finishing touch, I added some gold sequins from my stash. The card panel was adhered to a SSS black cardstock card base.

Card #4
Card four is very feminine and pretty and uses two of my favorite patterned papers from the kit. I cut two strips of the floral paper using a Tiny Scallop die from CC Designs. I adhered those strips to a piece of the pink gingham paper and then adhered that to the SSS Mint cardstock card base. For my sentiment, I popped up one of the cut-aparts from the patterned paper on foam tape and placed it in the center of the card. For finishing touches, I added some enamel dots from my stash and some Wink of Stella to give the card a little sparkle.

Card #5
This fun card uses an embossed resist technique with Distress Inks. I used the stitched heart stamp to create the embossed background on a piece of Bristol Smooth Cardstock. I added water to two shades of Distress Inks and then 'smooshed' the embossed paper down in the inks. A stitched rectangle die was used to create the card panel which was then popped up on fun foam to give the card dimension and stability. A simple top folding white card base was used. I heat embossed the sentiment on a piece of the SSS black cardstock and cut that out using a Lawn Fawn banner die.

Stay tuned for Part Two! :)

Until then...
Love and Hugs,
Donna
